My Slhost Nightmare

Slhost switched data centers and began the nightmare that I call hosting.  I have a VPS with them and they were increadible hosts.  I even blogged about them twice . . . without affiliate links!  That goes to show you how happy I was.  But, the party is over.

I got an email on Sept 5th that stated

Great News! We have just completed the migration of your VPS to the new Data Center.

In order to do this we had to change the IP addresses assigned to your VPS. To find the new IP addresses that were assigned to the VPS please go to:

Now, it can be debated that finding out that the IP of your server has changed is great news or not.  It is widely believed that one factor in search engine rankings is longevity on a server.  A new IP looks like a new server to search engines.

But, if that were not bad enough, the server does not stay up more than a few hours in a row with no explanation from slhost.

To the left you see a screenshot of the tickets I have put in since the nightmare began.  What this does not show is that several of these tickets contain several reports if my server being down and my inability to restart it.

Starting today, I will give you, my uninterested reader updates on the horrible uptime of my server since slhost moved data centers.

I have hosted with Slhost for almost 2 years, on the vps level 1 package. In the beginning they were awesome, but i am shocked by the level of service lately. What this company is currently doing, has to be considered criminal.

There are multiple times throughout the day when the entire company disappears from the face of the net. by disappears i mean that all of my hosted sites, WHM login, even their own home page” slhost.com “is off line. You would think that at the very least they would be able to keep their own home page up.

Recently the entire company disappeared for over 2 hours…finally when their home page reappeared i fired off a support ticket as quickly as possible, before they vanished again.
Tech support calmly informed me that my site was up and that nothing seemed to be wrong…i could have strangled him.

I am not sure what the internal situation is at slhost, but i promise you that you would be better off hosting your sites on your home computer, using a dial up connection…it is that bad.

I should have run from them at the beginning of the issues. Waiting the couple weeks I did hurt a lot.
